College students are gearing up to participate in the OBA’s Walk A Mile for STC following a presentation made at a special assembly by the WAM team headed by Project Chair Richard De Zoysa, OBA Secretary Sanjeev Palihawadana, Asst Secretary Ashen Karathelis, and OBA stalwart Senaka De Fonseka. The students were also addressed by the Sub Warden in support of the initiative.
They stressed the importance of student participation, encouraging all students to register with the special Walk A Mile website and share the link with their friends, families, and would-be sponsors to raise funds for the Smart Classroom project, which will immensely benefit them as well as all future generations of students.
To help promote the project among the student body, the College agreed to allow all teachers from grade 9 and below to wear the Walk A Mile T-Shirts every Friday on a designated dress-down day. A presentation of the T-Shirts to the school heads also took place after the assembly.
By day end a good response from the students was noted, with many registering and contributing.
The students’ walk will take place on the 21st of October, 2022.
